Welcome!

Welcome to my blog "Operation Aid"!

To understand the point of this blog I will give a little background on who I am.  I am a Canadian college student, also trained paramedic, currently studying International Development.  My hope is that upon completion of my program I will be able to work in the Humanitarian or "aid" work as it is often thought.  Part of this course required me to come up with an independent project or program proposal.  Although a blog may seem a bit of an odd choice for a college project, hold tight!

Whether you are someone interested in working in the development field or someone looking to donate or contribute and help those in need, there is the struggle of finding who or what to contribute to.  There are so many people and organizations asking for your help today, whether donations such clothes or essentials for school, money, hands on volunteer at events.. The lists go on! When looking for an organization there are so many questions you wonder and always at the back of your mind you want to know; where does this money/donation really go?!  Well, that is what I hope to clarify for not just myself but for anyone struggling to with those decisions.  It is important to look into anything you are looking to make a commitment to but also to not judge to rashly or go only on the opinions of  others but rather research for yourself and become more educated on the subject which i wish to do including challenge my own pre judgements/
Each week for the duration of my semester I will be spotlighting a Canadian organization (foundations, charities, non profits) and answering all those questions. By doing so we will better understand all that goes into the day to day workings of this groups, what fuels their successes, what may have been or could be a road block or even down fall.

Each post will contain

  • Who the group/organization is; who and how it came to be
  • Their mission statement/ purpose
  • What they do & where they do their work
  • Funding; how do they fund projects, pay their staff, keep their office going. Where are your donations going and how much of it?
  • Their Future goals/ end goal
  • What has been their major successes, what have the learned along the way
  • How do they track and monitor progress
  • Any media coverage which may be relevant
  • A link to the web page(if applicable)
  • A personal critique
I hope you find this blog informative if not riveting, happy blogging!
